Good Bottled Beer Guide Launch Event – Friday 31st May

My original Bible for stocking the shelves with UK beers when we first opened was the 2009 edition of CAMRA’s brilliant ‘Good Bottled Beer Guide’ which is superbly written by well know beer writer Jeff Evans. With all the new breweries opening in the last few years the 2009 guide has rapidly become out of date, so I am pleased to announce that the new edition  is being published later this month and we are very proud (and just a little bit excited) to be hosting a launch event for it at the shop.

The event on Friday 31st May will be split into two parts – firstly Jeff Evans will be holding a book signing and beer tasting event at the shop between 6.00pm and 7.30pm. This is open to everyone as it is within our normal opening hours and you are all welcome to come along, meet Jeff, sample a few of the ‘Gold Star’ beers from the book and get a book signed. Many of the local award winning brewers as well as CAMRA representatives will be present.

We are following this with a 'Meet The Brewers' event from 7.30pm to 10.00pm where you will be given the chance to sample many of the local 'gold star' rated beers from the book and meet the brewers responsible for them (So far confirmed are Bristol Beer Factory, Cotswold Spring, Hook Norton, Gloucester Brewery and Wye Valley). This will be a ticket only event - tickets (now available, but very limited) are £10.00 each, but will be redeemable against either the book or any of the award winning beers showcased on the night.

Meet the Brewer – Hobsons Brewery - Wednesday 5th June
One of the few non-Gloucestershire breweries that has been
‘ever-present’ on our shelves since we opened is the excellent Hobsons
brewery based at Cleobury Mortimer, Worcestershire. The main reason
for this is that their beers are superb but they are also one of the genuine
revolutionary small breweries in our part of the world. This year they are
celebrating their 20th anniversary, so what better way to help them
celebrate than by coming along to Meet head brewer, Nick Davis and
hear about their amazing journey and their impressive drive for
sustainability. Nick has also promised to bring along some food to
match to the beers.

Tickets for this event will be available next week -
They are priced at £5.00 each but can be redeemed for that value against
any Hobsons beers on the evening. Don’t miss out.

Meet The Cider Producer – Hogans – Thursday 6th June
Hot on the heels of the Hobsons evening we have a Hogans evening.
Based at Alcester, Warwickshire but with their cider Produced in the
Malvern Hills, Hogan’s Cider is one of a new breed of artisan cider maker
that has placed itself firmly on the cider map with a fresh and distinctive
approach to the age-old tradition of cider making. Come along and
meet Allen Hogan and hear his fascinating story whilst sampling some
great ciders and perrys.

Tickets for this event will be available next week -
They are priced at £5.00 each but can be redeemed for that value
against any Hogans ciders/perrys on the evening.
